Team USA Curling 2010 on FOX 21 News, Duluth, MN: Olympic Curling Team calls the Northland Home
EVELETH - In two months, five athletes – four of whom are from the Northland – will represent the U.S. in men's curling at the Winter Olympics. This weekend that world–class curling team is in Eveleth, competing against other top teams from the U.S. From there, it's a straight shot to the Olympics.
Team USA was hosted by both the Minnesota Wild NHL hockey team and the Minnesota Timberwolves NBA basketball team at their respective games on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Two great organizations recognizing our Men’s Olympic Curling Team!
The day of Minnesota sports began at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul for an afternoon hockey game. Team USA got the game started with the traditional call of “Let’s Play Hockey” from the FOX stage high above the ice. A fun surprise was meeting hockey legend Lou Nanne prior to the game! Mr. Nanne will be in Vancouver in February so we’ll be seeing him again. After settling into their seats, the team watched a good hockey game between the Wild and the Colorado Avalanche in which the Wild came out the winners!
A dinner break at NBA City Restaurant in downtown Minneapolis provided just the right amount of relaxation before the Timberwolves game at Target Center. The team was treated to second row seats for the game between the Wolves and the Phoenix Suns. The seats allowed an up close view of some great players in the NBA including Grant Hill, Steve Nash, Amar’e Stoudemire, and the Wolves own Al Jefferson. The night was “Kurt Rambis Glasses Night” as you can see by the photos! Team USA was introduced to the crowd during a break in the action and received a nice round of applause. While the T-Wolves didn’t win the game, it was awesome to watch them play from such great seats.
Thank you to the Wild and the Wolves organizations for the recognition at their games and for the fun day of watching our Minnesota sports teams!
